Re — VA Mesothelioma & Asbestos Benefits Guide is an independent editorial project. We publish plain-English explanations of VA disability, healthcare and survivor benefits for U.S. veterans, spouses and families affected by mesothelioma and asbestos exposure.
Independent and Non-Government
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or any government agency. Nobody here works for the VA or has any access to VA systems or decisions. For official information, forms and decisions, go to VA.gov. Our full position is set out in our Disclaimer.
Why This Site Exists
Two things make this subject unusually hard to research.
The first is that the information is scattered and written in the language of the regulations. A family trying to work out whether a benefit applies to them has to move between rating schedules, eligibility pages, forms and rate tables, most of which assume the reader already knows the vocabulary. That is difficult work at the best of times, and these are rarely the best of times.
The second is that a large share of what ranks well for these searches is not information at all. Search for almost any mesothelioma or asbestos benefits term and much of the first page is marketing — pages built to capture a phone number and pass it on, written to create urgency rather than understanding.
We are not that. We sell nothing, capture no leads, run no forms, and have no commercial relationship with any law firm, clinic, insurer or claims company. If a benefit is unlikely to apply to you, we say so, because we have no reason not to.
What We Cover
- Asbestos exposure and the PACT Act — where exposure occurred in military service, by branch, occupation and setting, and how it is documented.
- Claims process and legal support — evidence, records, statements, forms, and how a claim moves through the system.
- Disability compensation and financial benefits — how conditions are evaluated and what the money side involves.
- Family and survivor benefits — what may be available to spouses, dependents and survivors.
- Healthcare and medical treatment — VA health care, coverage, and support for households managing serious illness.
How We Work
Every guide is written from official primary sources — VA.gov, the regulations in Title 38, and federal health agencies — and links to them so you can check the original. Every article carries an author byline and a reviewed date. We describe how programs generally work and we never predict the outcome of anyone’s claim, because outcomes depend on individual evidence. The detail is in our Editorial Policy, including a list of what we will not publish.
Who Writes It
Our contributors are independent benefits writers and researchers. They are not attorneys and not physicians, and we do not pretend otherwise — which is why every guide points readers toward accredited representatives, Veterans Service Officers and treating clinicians for advice on their own situation. You can read more on our Authors page.
How It Is Funded
The site is free to read and is paid for by display advertising served through Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over what we publish, and our revenue does not depend on what any reader decides to do about their benefits. Our Advertising Disclosure explains this in full, including what we refuse to accept.
Getting in Touch
Corrections, accessibility problems and general questions are welcome at support@re.teerresulttoday.live. Please read our Contact Us page first — there are important things we are not able to help with, including individual claim questions, and it explains where those should go instead.
